Don Campbell says ” live like you are Dying “

February 7, 2010 by doncam

There is a country western song about live like you were dying . Everytime I hear it I think about how true it is and how I try to live that way. The true test will be on my last day to see how many regrets I have. So far I think I will be just fine.
My folks health is not so good so I am taking a break from toy building and spending time with them.
We had talked about doing this for several years but never did. This year it happened , I was posting old pictures for that reason. I understand many visitors only like the toy building but many more enjoy the old pictures and my family pictures and my snowplowing pictures as well. This is my webpage and the old pictures mean more to me than the toy pictures. I understand if you want to delete my sight from your favorites.
Todays picture is also a picture from the past of Deb , Nicole and I camping and making early memories together. My old pictures are priceless to me because now Nicole is all grown up and these pictures are very special.
The fact Deb and I can enjoy these pictures together after 37 years is also very special. At our age the odds of one of us having health problems gets greater every year.
This time with my folks will be very special as Nicole and Bill will also be flying to join us.
My folks are ok but this time together to make more memories and take more pictures is due.
A little break from the webpage might be in order.
Thanks again for so many nice e-mails from the thousands of cities and little towns around the world.
Have a great evening ,
Don and Debbie

Todays picture shows the completed project. It was a fun project.
WORKSHOP CLOSED – Spending time with my folks
Thinking about shutting down the webpage.
It has been over five years now of posting pictures and a couple times a year I think it is time to pull the plug on the webpage.
It has been a lot of fun , but it is also a lot of work. My webpage outlasted a lot of others who tried. I am getting close to 1.5 million visitors and that is cool but my goal was just to hit one million and i did that.
Thanks for all the nice e-mails over the years .
I got a E-mail today complaining about me posting old pictures saying he doesn’t like it. . That e-mail is helping me to decide to shut it down.
This is my webpage and I can post any pictures I want to post.
If you do not like the old pictures I am posting while spending time with my folks feel free to delete my webpage from your favorites and go somewhere else.
This is the last picture I am posting for a while.

VW truck , 1959 VW Truck customizing project , fresh paint job , Don Campbell.

Customized 1959 VW Truck- Todays picture shows the next stage of the mini VW truck process . I got the body work all done and hauled it over to my brother in laws to get some bluse paint on it. It still doesn’t look cute yet and i was excited to do the final assembly.
This was another one of my fun shop projects I did when we lived in Alma, Michigan. Some people like everything kept stock, but I always liked things out of the ordinary. Many years ago i saw a picture of a shortened red 1960 VW truck and I just loved how it looked. I never knew at the time I would ever find a VW truck , but it was sitting in a garage not being driven. I paid $500.00 for it and drove it home with no plates at all. Deb thought I was a little strange wanting to cut it in half , but after showing her the picture, she thought it was cute too.
Hey Deb !!, What’s for lunch ??- A steak, mushroom, pepper, onion and cheese sub, yum !!
SIX mile walk- Deb and I walked 3 miles last night and 3 miles this morning outside and it seemed so nice. !! This is really helping us not have cabin fever.
SNOW , SNOW, SNOW – Nicole and Bill are preparing for the next big storm in D.C. They could get over 15 to 20 inches this weekend.
Gaylord Snowfall- Our snowfall totals are now over 80 inches behind a year ago at this time.
Cat Truck Model- Taking a break from the workshop to spend time with my folks.
Have a great Thurs.

VW Truck 1959 being customized by Don Campbell .

February 4, 2010 by doncam

VW Truck – Todays picture shows another project I did to keep me busy in my sparetime several years ago. I bought this 1959 VW Truck and the next week I began converting it into a shorty VW truck.
I started by cutting a three foot piece out of the center of the bed and welded it back together. Then I flared the rear fenders and put a slight flare on the front fenders. I mounted wide tires and cragar mags to give it a sportier look. Then I sanded down the whole body and primed it. There was no rust on the body . It had a 36 hp motor in it. I also built the light duty trailer to haul my rail dunebuggies on.
Date Night – Hey Deb, Lets go out , we had ribs, fries, cole slaw and corn bread , yum !
Cabin Fever- More snowy , cold weather and it’s cabin fever time.
We are going to try to avoid cabin fever and try something different.
Walked outside – Deb and I went for a nice walk outside and it seemed so nice.
More snow in Washington D.C.- Nicole and Bill just got a few more inches of snow and they got another big storm of over 12 inches coming this weekend.
Have a great Wed. !!!!!!!
