Deb and I headed out in the car yesterday southwest about a hour to Voelkers John Deere Dealer in Lake City. Voelkers handle big tractors and not just riding lawn mowers. So I feel better getting parts for my 5400 with them. They always seem very organized and familier with questions I have about the 5400. I also bought a new flasher switch as my flashers have been stopping a lot on the top of the cab in the last year . They still work part of the time and then they just stop. So they thought it was the switch/flasher unit. I also bought a couple parts for my smaller 455 Diesel Lawn tractors.
Todays picture shows Deb climbing on one of many John Deeres they had at the dealership, ha,ha. Actually I suggested that she get her picture in it, (:>). She is always a good sport and that makes it fun even at a tractor dealer. We walked around and I did climb on a couple bigger John Deeres and enjoyed it.
We had to stop for traffic on a paving job on our way home and I got to see some construction machines working while we waited.
On our return trip we also stopped and visited with family and another friend right on the way so that was fun too.
The lowpoint of the day was we were getting really hungry and our only choice was to eat at McDonalds ??? But we did it and saw the positive even in it as we did not have to leave a tip so it was like one of us ate free, (:>). It has been years since we ate at a McDonalds and it reminded us of years gone by taking Nicole their for a fun meal once in a while.
We mostly remember she rarely ate the food, she just wanted the toy, ha,ha.
SUNDAY – It’s a beautiful Sunday morning and no chill in the air. The weatherman said last month we only had two days of normal temperatures . He said it was the coldest May on record for our area. Must be global warming , (:>).
GREAT DEPRESSION OF 2008- As the people on wall street and our government continue to argue whether we are in a recession or not , more and more people are talking about the great depression of 2008, ha,ha. REALLY !!, they are !!!
They are even thinking of closing Michigan now that last week the car companies have decide to have all the new compact cars be built in Mexico. They say there is no profit to be made making those little cars in this country. They said they have to sell three or four of them to compare to just selling one S.U.V.
SPOILED AMERICA- We have a hard time admitting we are all pretty spoiled . No-one has done anything to counteract the high fuel prices but complain .
The simplest , quickest first step would be make a mandatory 50 mph speed limit nation wide. But people would be FURIOUS at such a suggestion !! (:<). We’re all too spoiled to slow down .
Forty years ago I remember sitting in lines at gas stations , and here it is 40 years later and no-one has done anything about it. Cars and trucks actually got better gas milage 40 years ago than the average vehicle on the road today gets. We’re just all too spoiled and we better just get used to spending $100.00 at the gas station for a fill up.
I DO think this is a nice wakeup call for some of us but not all of us.
Deb and I will continue to cut our gallons of gas used compared to last year. To date we have cut 60% of the gallons we used last year at this time just joyriding and camping and such.
I even felt a little guilty using the gas going to get the tractor parts yesterday , but when I saw the roads all packed with cars and trucks and people speeding by me all day long , I didn’t feel so bad after all. I realize I am just probably overreacting, ha,ha.
Have a nice Sunday with the ones you love.
